A · Introduction

What estimated ad-equivalent reach value means

Every time a LinkedIn post appears on someone’s screen, LinkedIn counts an impression. Advertisers buy the same unit when they run paid campaigns, and they pay for it as a CPM, the cost of 1,000 impressions. Estimated ad-equivalent reach value asks a simple hypothetical question: roughly what would it cost to buy this many LinkedIn ad impressions?

It puts organic reach into a familiar unit. It does not measure value received. Organic and paid impressions are not necessarily identical in attention, targeting, placement, conversion quality, or commercial outcomes. An organic impression in a follower’s feed and a paid impression bought against a job-title audience are different things, and we treat the comparison as a sense of scale only.

B · Fundamentals

Understanding LinkedIn advertising costs

LinkedIn sells ads through an auction. On its pricing page, LinkedIn says your bid “competes with other advertisers who want to reach the same target audience,” and that the cost to win “depends on the bid and the desirability of your target audience.” Its help article on advertising cost lists four price drivers: target audience, bidding strategy (maximum delivery, manual, or cost cap), objective, and ad relevance score. Depending on the objective, the chargeable event can be impressions, clicks, video views, or message sends. LinkedIn does not publish a price list or an official average CPM.

LinkedIn Ads benchmarks in 2026

Several companies publish LinkedIn CPM benchmarks drawn from real advertiser spend. They measure different things: medians or weighted averages, account panels or agency experience, standard Campaign Manager CPM or company-level reach. That makes their figures related but not directly comparable. Every figure below was checked against the original publication on October 8, 2026.

Why results vary. The samples differ in who advertises (startups or enterprises), where audiences are, which formats run (single image, video, document, Thought Leader Ads), campaign objective, and how each metric is defined. Kiin Labs also finds that audience size, uploaded lists and maximum-delivery bidding all raise CPM within the same account.

Closest comparison. HyperClapper values ordinary feed impressions, so the closest match is Kiin Labs’ account-level Campaign Manager medians. Fibbler’s identified-company CPM and Metadata’s spend-weighted average answer slightly different questions. B2Linked’s range is useful context but is not a statistical sample.

D · Our decision

Why HyperClapper uses $40 CPM

$40 is a rounded product benchmark. It is not a newly discovered universal price, and it is not the exact median of any one study. We chose it for three reasons:

  • It is conservative. It sits below every published median we reviewed: Kiin Labs $48.80 and $54.53, Fibbler $61.41, and Metadata’s spend-weighted $63.19.
  • It sits at the efficient end of real campaigns. Kiin Labs calls $36 a “good” CPM, and Fibbler’s top-quartile CPM is $39.86. So $40 is roughly what a well-run B2B campaign pays, not a typical or premium price.
  • It is transparent. One disclosed, round number is easier to audit than a hidden or shifting rate, and the rounding signals that it is an illustration rather than a market quote.

The honest caveat. The evidence would also support a higher figure. Medians cluster between roughly $49 and $63, and US-only campaigns run about $91 in Kiin Labs’ data. In cheaper markets the opposite holds: Kiin reports $29.89 for the Netherlands and $13.38 for India, where $40 overstates paid costs. We deliberately chose a figure below the medians so the estimate is less likely to overstate. We review it quarterly against the sources in Section J.

Worked examples at the $40 CPM reference
ImpressionsCPMEstimated reach value
1,000$40$40
10,000$40$400
50,000$40$2,000

This is a hypothetical advertising-cost comparison. It is not a statement of cash earnings, actual savings, or what the same budget would achieve as paid media. Only impressions are used, and likes and comments are never added on top (see Section G).

F · Markets

Geographic differences

What matters is where the audience is, not the advertiser’s billing address or physical location. An ad bought from India that targets US managers competes in the US auction. The figures below come from one study (Kiin Labs). They are observed advertising benchmarks, and samples from other studies are not directly comparable.

Other studies split regions differently. Fibbler reports North America $78.41, UK $54.62, Eurozone $46.50, Nordics $45.34 and Australia & New Zealand $54.22, but assigns market by the advertiser’s billing currency, not the audience. HyperClapper currently uses a single default CPM of $40 for every audience. The calculation does not adjust by country.

G · Engagement

Likes, comments and impressions are different things

An impression means a post was displayed. Likes, comments, shares and clicks are actions someone took after seeing it. They happen on top of impressions, not instead of them.

LinkedIn engagement advertising is priced by the same auction. B2Linked cites roughly $1–$3 per click on the engagement objective and notes that LinkedIn then counts any action on the ad as a click. Kiin Labs reports median costs per engagement of $1.65 for static Thought Leader Ads and $1.10 for document ads.

Why we don’t add $1 per like

HyperClapper does not assign arbitrary dollar values such as $1 per like or $3 per comment. Those actions happen on impressions we already value, so pricing them separately would double-count the same reach. There is also no market rate for an organic reaction.

Shown separately

Likes and comments stay visible as their own performance indicators, with counts and trends but no dollar value attached. The reach value uses impressions only.

H · Caveats

Limitations and assumptions

  • Paid impressions are not identical to organic impressions in targeting, attention or intent.
  • Estimated visibility is not actual revenue.
  • It does not establish money saved.
  • It does not measure conversions or return on investment.
  • Advertising costs vary by market, audience, time, bidding strategy and campaign objective.
  • Results depend on the accuracy of the underlying impression counts.
  • HyperClapper does not guarantee that paid advertising would deliver corresponding performance.
  • Account-wide impressions must not automatically be attributed to HyperClapper. A figure based on your whole account includes reach you would have had anyway.

I · FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is LinkedIn CPM?

CPM (cost per mille) is what an advertiser pays for 1,000 ad impressions on LinkedIn: spend ÷ impressions × 1,000. Because LinkedIn sells ads through an auction, CPM is the result of bidding and competition, not a fixed list price.

How much do 1,000 LinkedIn impressions cost?

It depends on audience, country, format, objective, bid strategy and timing. Kiin Labs (1,310 accounts, Sep 2025 – Sep 2026) reports a median single-image CPM of $54.53. The cheapest quarter of accounts pay $32.45 or less, and the dearest quarter pay $98.19 or more. HyperClapper uses a single rounded reference of $40 for illustration.

Why does HyperClapper use $40 CPM?

We wanted one transparent number that is easy to audit. $40 is a rounded benchmark informed by several B2B sources. It sits below the published medians we reviewed ($48.80–$63.19) and close to what Kiin Labs calls a “good” CPM ($36) and Fibbler’s top-quartile CPM ($39.86), so it leans conservative.

Is $40 LinkedIn’s official advertising price?

No. LinkedIn does not publish an official CPM, and $40 is not endorsed or recommended by LinkedIn. It is HyperClapper’s own reference assumption, and HyperClapper is not affiliated with LinkedIn.

Are LinkedIn Ads more expensive in the US?

In the data we reviewed, yes. Kiin Labs reports a median single-image CPM of $91.30 for campaigns targeting only the US, compared with $50.49 for the UK and $13.38 for India. These are cross-account, directional figures. HyperClapper currently applies one default CPM everywhere.

How is estimated advertising-equivalent reach value calculated?

Estimated Ad-Equivalent Reach Value (USD) = (Impressions ÷ 1,000) × $40. For example, 50,000 impressions at a $40 CPM gives $2,000. Only impressions are used.

Why aren’t likes and comments assigned fixed dollar values?

They happen on the same impressions we already value. Adding $1 per like or $3 per comment would double-count that reach and invent prices no advertiser pays for an organic reaction. We show likes and comments as separate performance indicators instead.

Does estimated reach value mean I earned money?

No. It is a hypothetical comparison of what similar paid impressions might cost. It is not income, cash value, money saved, or a guarantee of what paid ads would deliver.

Can organic LinkedIn engagement be directly compared with paid ads?

Only loosely. Paid impressions are targeted and controlled, while organic impressions differ in audience, attention, placement and intent. The estimate gives a common unit for scale. It does not claim the two are equal in quality or outcomes.

How often is the benchmark updated?

We plan to review it quarterly. Each change gets a new version number. The current version is 2026.10, effective October 8, 2026. Future versions may differ as new research is published.
